Acworth residential refinishing
Acworth Bathtub Refinishing, Reglazing & Fiberglass Repair
Unique Refinishers repairs and refinishes existing bathtubs, shower pans and tile for Acworth homeowners. Whether your tub is fiberglass, acrylic or enamel, the result starts with an honest look at its surface condition and careful preparation before any reglazing begins.

Surface condition
Reading the condition of your existing tub
Acworth has a mix of established in-town homes and newer subdivisions toward the lakes, so we see everything from enameled steel to fiberglass tub-and-shower units. The surface tells us what repairs are needed before refinishing.
| What you see | Typical cause | Usual approach |
|---|---|---|
| Dull, chalky or faded | Common on older fiberglass and acrylic as the gelcoat wears | Usually refinished for one even color and a smooth feel |
| Chips and nicks | Dropped bottles or tools; can expose the material underneath | Filled and smoothed; a full refinish if the repair would show |
| Hairline or small cracks | Often in fiberglass floors that were not fully supported | Repaired when the shell is stable; flexing must be addressed first |
| Rust spots | Around drains and chips in enameled steel or cast iron | Treated and repaired before refinishing when corrosion is localized |
| Peeling earlier coating | A previous refinish lifting in sheets or bubbles | Old coating removed completely before a new finish |
Fiberglass
Fiberglass tubs and shower pans
Fiberglass is light and common in tub-and-shower units, but its surface wears, fades and can crack, especially where a base was not fully supported when it was installed. Small cracks, chips and holes can often be repaired and blended, then refinished for one uniform color.
A shell that flexes, leaks through or sits on a damaged subfloor is a different problem. That needs fixing first, and we will tell you if refinishing is not a good fit. Our guide can you refinish fiberglass bathtubs? covers the limits.

How we prepare a tub before reglazing
Preparation is the part of the job you never see, and it is what decides how well the new surface holds up.
Step 1: Assess the surface
We identify the material, look for cracks, soft spots and earlier coatings, and ask about any leaks.
Step 2: Remove what will not bond
Caulk, soap film and failing coatings are cleared, because a new finish only performs as well as the surface under it.
Step 3: Repair damage
Chips, qualifying cracks and rust spots are filled and smoothed level with the surrounding surface.
Step 4: Mask and ventilate
The surrounding room is protected and ventilated before any coating goes on.
Step 5: Apply the new finish
The bonded coating is applied in controlled coats for an even surface.
Step 6: Cure and care
The tub stays dry until the coating cures; you receive care instructions.
Refinish or replace
When replacement is the better choice
Refinishing fits a tub that is stable with problems on the surface. Replacement makes more sense when the tub leaks through the body, a fiberglass shell flexes and cannot be supported, there is rot or failed waterproofing around it, or you are changing the size or layout of the room.
Read refinishing vs. replacement for a fuller comparison.
How long a refinished tub can last
Good preparation and gentle cleaning are what help a refinished surface last. Avoid abrasive cleaners and suction-cup mats.
In our experience it is not uncommon to see tubs we refinished 10–15 years earlier still in excellent condition. That is an observation from our own work, not a guarantee: results depend on the condition of the tub, surface preparation, use and cleaning. Ask about written terms for your project before work begins.
Not sure what your tub is made of?
Send a photo of the whole tub and a close-up of any damage. We will help identify the material and explain what preparation it needs.
Acworth homeowner questions
Frequently asked questions
Can you repair a cracked fiberglass tub in Acworth?
Many small cracks, chips and holes can be repaired. If the tub floor flexes when you stand in it, the support underneath needs attention first or the repair may not hold. See our fiberglass tub repair page.
Why does preparation matter so much before reglazing?
A new coating bonds to the surface underneath it. Soap residue, old caulk or a peeling previous coating will undermine it, so cleaning, removing failing layers and repairing damage are what make the finished surface even and durable.
My tub was refinished before and is peeling. Can it be redone?
Usually, yes. The earlier coating is assessed and removed completely before a new finish is applied. Tell us it has been refinished before when you send photos, because removal adds to the preparation.
Do you refinish shower floors and surrounds too?
Yes. Fiberglass shower pans, tile surrounds and tile floors can often be refinished. Refinishing renews the surface; it does not waterproof tile or fix loose tiles, which are repaired first. See tile refinishing.
How long before we can use the tub?
The tub needs to stay dry until the coating cures, and cure time depends on the coating, temperature and humidity. We confirm it for your project; our drying time guide explains what affects it.
