Kennesaw residential refinishing

Bathtub Refinishing & Reglazing in Kennesaw, GA

If your Kennesaw bathroom has a solid tub with a worn, stained or dated surface, refinishing (often called reglazing) may let you keep it rather than tear it out. We help you judge whether your tub is a good candidate first, especially if you are updating only part of the bathroom.

Is your tub a good candidate for refinishing?

Many Kennesaw homes were built during the area's growth in the 1980s, ’90s and 2000s, so a lot of bathrooms still have their original fiberglass, acrylic or enameled steel tubs, along with some older cast iron. Four questions decide most cases.

Is the tub solid?

Good sign: No flexing, cracking through or movement when you stand in it

Check first: A fiberglass floor that gives underfoot needs its support assessed first

Is the damage on the surface?

Good sign: Wear, dullness, stains, chips, rust spots, an outdated color

Check first: Leaks from the body of the tub or rot underneath call for replacement or other repairs

Has it been refinished before?

Good sign: Original finish, or an earlier coating that can be fully removed

Check first: Peeling or bubbling coatings must come off before anything new goes on

Do you like the layout?

Good sign: You are keeping the tub where it is

Check first: If you are moving walls or changing the tub size, replacement fits the plan better

Not sure? A photo of the whole tub and a few close-ups are usually enough for a first opinion. If refinishing is not a good fit, we will say so. Our guide can every tub be refinished? goes into more detail.

Partial renovations

Updating part of the bathroom, not all of it

Plenty of homeowners are not ready for a full remodel. They want a new vanity, a fresh color or new flooring, and the tub is the one item that would force a much bigger job if it had to come out. Refinishing keeps that fixture and gives it a surface that suits the new look.

  • New vanity, lighting and paint while the tub and tile stay
  • New flooring, with the tub refinished afterward to match
  • Updating a hall bath used by children or guests without a full gut
  • Freshening a bathroom before listing or after buying a home
  • Refinishing dated wall tile so it works with a new color scheme

Refinish or replace

Refinishing versus replacing a tub in Kennesaw

Replacement is the right answer for some tubs, and we will tell you when. For a sound tub with surface problems, refinishing usually means far less disruption to the rest of the room. We do not quote savings percentages; your estimate depends on your bathroom.

How long a refinished tub can last

Unique Refinishers has refinished bathtubs for more than 55 years. A refinished surface lasts best with gentle cleaning and a mat without suction cups.

In our experience it is not uncommon to see tubs we refinished 10–15 years earlier still in excellent condition. That is an observation from our own work, not a guarantee: results depend on the condition of the tub, surface preparation, use and cleaning. Ask about written terms for your project before work begins.

Send a photo and tell us what else is changing in the bathroom. We will give you a straight answer on whether your tub is worth keeping.

Kennesaw homeowner questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know if my Kennesaw tub can be refinished?

Most tubs with surface problems (wear, stains, chips, rust spots or an outdated color) are candidates as long as the tub is stable and not leaking through the body. Send a photo of the whole tub plus close-ups of any damage, and we will tell you whether refinishing makes sense or whether replacement is the better call.

Is bathtub reglazing the same as refinishing?

Yes. Reglazing, refinishing and resurfacing all describe renewing the surface of the tub in place with a new bonded coating. Our refinishing vs. reglazing guide explains how the terms are used.

We are only redoing part of the bathroom. When should the tub be refinished?

After the dusty and messy work, such as demolition, drywall sanding and flooring removal, and before final accessories and shower doors go on. Dust settling on a fresh coating can mar the finish, so tell us what else is planned and we will suggest an order of work.

Can tile be refinished along with the tub?

Yes, if the tile is sound. Refinishing changes the color and surface of the tile; it does not fix loose tiles, failed grout or water damage behind the wall, which need repair first. See our tile refinishing page.

What affects the cost?

The tub material and size, how much repair is needed, any earlier coating, the color and whether tile or other surfaces are included. Estimates are free, and our cost guide explains the main factors.
