Tucker residential refinishing
Tucker Bathtub, Fiberglass & Tile Refinishing for Bathroom Updates
Updating a bathroom in Tucker does not have to mean tearing out a bathtub, shower or tile that is still sound. Bathtub refinishing and reglazing restore the surfaces you keep, so they suit the new vanity, flooring and paint around them.

Three surfaces
What can be restored in a Tucker bathroom update
Most bathroom updates involve one or more of these surfaces. Here is what refinishing can do for each, and where it stops.
The bathtub
Can be restored: Worn gloss, stains, chips, rust spots and dated colors on porcelain, enameled steel, fiberglass and acrylic tubs.
Fix first: A tub that leaks through the body or a fiberglass floor that flexes needs that problem solved first.
Fiberglass showers and tub-shower units
Can be restored: Faded, chalky gelcoat, stained shower floors and qualifying chips or cracks, repaired and then refinished.
Fix first: Cracks caused by a poorly supported floor come back unless the support is corrected.
Wall and surround tile
Can be restored: Sound ceramic tile in a color that clashes with your new vanity, floor or paint can be refinished in a new color.
Fix first: Refinishing does not fix loose tiles, failed grout or water damage behind the wall; those are repaired first.

Fitting refinishing into your bathroom update
Refinishing works best at a particular point in a renovation. Getting the order right protects the new finish.
Step 1: Decide what stays
Choose which fixtures and tile you are keeping. Send us photos so we can confirm they suit refinishing.
Step 2: Do the messy work first
Demolition, drywall sanding, flooring removal and painting prep create dust that can mar a fresh coating.
Step 3: Repair before refinishing
Loose tile, cracked fiberglass and chips are repaired so the new finish goes over a sound surface.
Step 4: Refinish the surfaces
The tub, shower and tile are refinished in place, usually before new shower doors and accessories go in.
Step 5: Let it cure, then finish up
Keep the refinished surfaces dry while they cure before final caulk, accessories and first use.

How long a refinished tub can last
Unique Refinishers has refinished bathtubs, showers and tile for more than 55 years.
In our experience it is not uncommon to see tubs we refinished 10–15 years earlier still in excellent condition. That is an observation from our own work, not a guarantee: results depend on the condition of the tub, surface preparation, use and cleaning. Ask about written terms for your project before work begins.

Tucker homeowner questions
Frequently asked questions
Can you refinish the tub and the tile around it at the same time?
Yes. Many Tucker homeowners refinish the tub and the surrounding wall tile together so they match. The tile has to be firmly attached with sound grout. See our tile refinishing page.
Our fiberglass tub-shower looks chalky and stained. Is it worth refinishing?
If the unit is firm underfoot and not leaking, it is usually a good candidate. Fading and staining sit in the surface layer, which refinishing replaces. Read can you refinish fiberglass bathtubs? for more.
When in our bathroom update should we schedule refinishing?
After the dusty work (demolition, drywall sanding and flooring removal) and before new shower doors, accessories and final caulk. If you have a contractor, put us in touch and we can fit the refinishing into their schedule.
Can I change the color of my tub and tile?
Yes. Refinishing is a common way to replace a dated tub or tile color without removing anything. Tell us the colors of your new vanity, flooring and paint, and we will talk through finish options when you request an estimate.
Is reglazing different from refinishing?
No, reglazing, refinishing and resurfacing all describe renewing a surface in place with a new bonded coating. Our refinishing vs. reglazing guide explains how the terms are used.
