Commercial refinishing

Bathtub Refinishing for Nursing Homes & Assisted Living

Tub and shower refinishing for nursing homes and assisted living communities, scheduled around residents, with slip-resistant and step-in options.

Bathing access

Planning bathing-access improvements in an occupied facility

Residents continue to live in the building while bathrooms are improved. Work can be planned by wing or floor, coordinated with care and maintenance teams, and scheduled so each bathroom is returned to use only after the finish has cured.

Refinishing a suitable existing tub keeps the fixture in place and avoids the demolition of a full replacement. Tubs with structural damage, rust-through or persistent leaks may still need repair or replacement.

A tub cut-down can make entry and exit easier for residents. Slip-resistant treatments can provide additional traction and may help reduce the risk of slips and falls. No treatment eliminates all fall risks.

Where grab bars are part of a facility's plans, they can be discussed and coordinated with the facility; their selection and installation are evaluated separately. Accessibility requirements are assessed for each facility.

These options do not by themselves make a bathroom accessible or compliant, and no product eliminates all fall risks.

Residents with mobility challenges may find a standard bathtub wall difficult to step over. Cut-down conversions can make entering and exiting suitable bathtubs easier. Whether a tub is suitable depends on its material, construction and condition.

Slip-resistant surfaces can provide additional traction and may help reduce slipping risks. Properly installed grab bars can provide additional support. Grab bars can be coordinated or evaluated as part of a broader bathroom safety project.

Customized Bathtub Services for Nursing Homes/Assisted Living Facilities

At Unique Refinishers, we understand that each nursing home and assisted living facility has its own requirements. We work with administrators and maintenance staff to understand the facility’s needs. Whether the project involves refinishing existing bathtubs, tub cut-downs or slip-resistant surfaces, we can help evaluate which options suit the existing fixtures.

Bathtub Refinishing

Refinishing a suitable existing bathtub can improve its appearance and restore a clean, sound surface without removing the fixture. The process typically involves thorough cleaning, repairing eligible damage and applying a new coating. Where a tub has structural damage or other problems that surface restoration cannot correct, replacement may be the better option.

Accessibility Modifications

Tub cut-downs and slip-resistant bottoms can make suitable bathtubs easier to use for residents with mobility limitations. These options do not by themselves make a bathroom fully accessible or compliant with applicable requirements.

Collaboration and Coordination

We work with facility staff and administrators to plan work around residents, care schedules and curing requirements. Facilities remain responsible for assessing their accessibility, infection-control and safety requirements, and should consult qualified professionals when a broader evaluation is needed.

Planning a commercial project

What to plan for on a multi-unit project

Most commercial refinishing decisions come down to the same questions: which fixtures are good candidates, how many rooms can be out of service at once, and how the work fits around guests, residents and staff.

  • Refinish or replace?

Refinishing suits fixtures that are structurally sound: worn, stained, dated or chipped surfaces on porcelain, cast iron, steel, acrylic and fiberglass. Fixtures that are cracked through, leaking, flexing or failing structurally are better replaced, and we say so when we evaluate them.

  • Fixture suitability

Before quoting a portfolio we look at representative rooms: the fixture material, any previous coating, chips and rust, caulk and grout condition, and access. That keeps the scope realistic and identifies rooms that need repair or replacement instead.

  • Room downtime & phasing

Work is scheduled in batches, by floor, building or unit stack, so the rest of the property stays in service. Return-to-service timing depends on the coating system, ventilation and conditions, and is confirmed for your property during planning.

  • Coordination on site

We plan access, keys, ventilation, parking, elevators and resident or guest notices with your engineering, housekeeping or maintenance team, and keep one point of contact for the project.

  • Procurement & renovation planning

We can document scope, fixture counts and phasing for capital plans, renovation budgets, bids and purchasing. Ask for the insurance certificates and documentation your procurement process requires.

  • Nationwide availability

We take on commercial projects across the United States. Travel, materials and production are planned for each property, and scheduling depends on project size and timing.
